It is often said that Prince Haflan Draemere lost his heart the very moment he first laid eyes upon Mirendey. At the time, the young prince was travelling through the Seadrake Lands when he passed through the town of Cassaihearth, where Mirendey worked diligently within the respected Tailors’ Guild.
Unlike the noblewomen Haflan had been expected to court, Mirendey possessed neither grand lineage nor political influence. What she did possess, however, was a quiet confidence, remarkable composure, and a warmth that drew people towards her naturally. Those who knew her in Cassaihearth remembered her not for beauty alone, but for her work ethic, humility, and sharp wit.
The pair were wed only months later.
The union surprised much of the nobility, some of whom viewed the marriage as beneath the future King-Heir of the Clay Lands. Yet among the common folk, the match was celebrated warmly, seen as proof that the Draemere line still valued character above prestige.
Any doubts regarding Mirendey’s suitability for royal life were swiftly silenced within her first year as princess. Far from shrinking beneath the weight of courtly expectation, she adapted with remarkable ease, earning admiration through diligence, empathy, and calm leadership.
Her finest hour came during the great fire in Bodria’s western market. With Prince Haflan away in the neighbouring town of Middlehearth, panic threatened to consume the streets as flames spread through the crowded district. Rather than retreat to safety, Mirendey acted.
Together with her great-aunt-in-law, Princess Judiil, she rallied the Town Guard, organised townsfolk, and helped direct efforts to contain the blaze before it could devour the surrounding quarters. Witnesses later spoke not of fear in the princess, but of resolve. Smoke-blackened and exhausted, she remained in the streets until the danger had passed.
From that day onward, even many former sceptics were forced to concede what the people had already begun to believe:
Mirendey Draemere possessed the heart of a true princess.
