Coveted by kings and nobles alike, the wyverns were the beasts upon which Aulgalan the Conqueror forged his empire. Their coming ensured the rise of the Imperial Line, granting the Mernic Emperors a power few kingdoms could ever hope to challenge.
Yet the true origin of wyvern eggs remains shrouded in mystery. They are not laid by living wyverns, nor are they born through flame or natural breeding. Their creation is a secret guarded jealously by the Ardulai, the Empire’s symbiotic faith, and entrusted only to the highest ranks of their order—the enigmatic High Corynths.
Among the common folk, darker rumours persist. It is whispered that the deaths of emperors’ firstborn children often coincide with the sudden appearance of newborn wyverns. Officially, such tales are dismissed as superstition and slander—petty rumours spread by fearful minds and enemies of the Empire.
And yet, the pattern has been noted too many times for some to ignore.
