THE DAJEIAN REALMS OF NOKONDO

The Westernmost Realms · Lands of the Tokot

Nokondo is a land of immense beauty and striking contrasts, where snow-crowned mountains, humid jungles, and tranquil river valleys exist within the same vast realm. In the north, towering peaks remain veiled in frost throughout much of the year, while the centrelands give way to dense exotic jungles teeming with unfamiliar life. Further south, the terrain softens into peaceful meadowed riverlands whose fertile plains support both settlement and wandering tribes alike.

Among Nokondo’s many regions, Oskasa is particularly renowned for its warmth and sunlight. The land is rich with rare flora unknown to either Mernia or Marcia, many of which possess unusual properties studied closely by healers, traders, and natural philosophers from across the Known World.

Foremost among these plants are the famed tekari chutes, long hollow growths prized especially by the Isnaldin, who use them when mounting their enormous domesticated snails. Rather than climbing directly upon the creatures and risking harm, the Isnaldin traditionally vault over the shells using full-length chutes that often exceed ten feet in length.

According to local tradition, an elderly Isnaldin traveller later discovered a gentler alternative. By cutting the tekari chutes into shorter sections and draining them of moisture through suction, they could be used as lightweight stepping stones that adhered naturally to the shell’s surface. The method spread widely thereafter, becoming both safer and more practical for everyday use.

The Isnaldin themselves roam primarily across Nokondo’s southern plains, where the dense jungles of the north and centrelands grow less oppressive. Their nomadic communities move alongside rivers and open grasslands, living in close harmony with the colossal snails upon which much of their culture depends.

Meanwhile, the eastern forests are home to the curious kubira—horned monkeys often seen reclining lazily among the branches of flowering cherry blossom trees. Though generally harmless, travellers speak of their uncanny intelligence and habit of silently observing strangers from the canopy above.

In every direction, Nokondo deepens the sense of wonder surrounding the lands beyond the Sea of Beasts. To those willing to brave the perilous crossing, the realm offers mysteries, beauty, and forms of life unlike anything found elsewhere in the Known World.
