The Damson Lands stretch from the south-eastern reaches of Marcia to the continent’s very heart—Paolermonn, seat of imperial power and centre of the Paolemern Empire. The region has remained under the rule of the Paolemern noble line since its colonisation more than two and a half centuries ago, following the collapse of the ancient Mernic Empire.

When Mernia descended into fragmentation and revolution, the surviving remnants of imperial power fled across the sea to Marcia. What began as a kingdom-in-exile rapidly transformed into a continent-spanning empire. Within only two generations, the Paolemerns established dominion over vast territories, yet of all their possessions, none were held in greater esteem than the Damson Lands themselves.

To the Paolemerns, the region resembled a perfected reflection of their lost homeland. Its dry climate, resilient flora, and abundance of scaled wildlife evoked memories of ancient Mernia, though the soil of the Damson proved far richer and more fertile than the lands they had left behind. As a result, the region became one of the empire’s greatest agricultural centres, producing immense quantities of lakari grain, ghi root, and a wide variety of fruit cultivated beneath the southern suns.

Along the eastern coast lie the jagged and infamous Bone Isles, a scattering of sharp, rocky islands surrounded by violent currents and hidden reefs. Countless vessels have been wrecked upon their shores, and sailors regard the waters there with deep superstition and dread.

To the west rise the colossal Kartith Mountains, which divide the Damson Lands from the neighbouring Blemish Salt Lands. Their peaks rank among the highest in all Marcia, forming a natural barrier between two starkly different worlds. On the Damson side, the mountain slopes are green and fertile, nourished by moisture carried inland from the sea. Beyond the range, however, the Blemish side becomes dry, barren, and windswept beneath relentless heat.

Further north, where the imperial capital dominates the landscape, the Damson Lands grow greener still. Vast orchards, river valleys, and cultivated estates flourish around the heart of Paolemern authority, though the oppressive southern heat never truly fades. Even in its most verdant regions, the Damson remains a land of blazing suns, heavy air, and enduring imperial ambition.
